Maimouna, and the right to exist.

Maimouna is the daughter of a Marabout, a Koranic teacher who is entrusted with children from the age of four for a purely religious education. Maimouna grows up with the young Talibés (students of the Koran) and spends her childhood between Koran memorization and household chores. Thanks to Janghi, her life changes - She and the others can finally go to school, and start dreaming: Maimouna is very ambitious and wants to be a teacher, or a doctor!

Our mission was complete, but when we registered for the exam that would allow her to continue her studies, we discovered that Maimouna had no papers. A simple and banal piece of paper can change the destiny of a life. The right to exist, which with Janghi we want to ensure for every child.

Although I am undocumented, I would not like to be a tailor...

For many years, Mamadou, the son of Guinean emigrants living in Senegal, has wanted to go to school. But without a birth certificate, his father explains, he cannot be enrolled. This year he is learning to be a tailor, but he has changed - he is no longer the cheerful, curious child he once was. "His uncle straightened him out and he is going to learn the trade from him," says his mother, convinced that she is doing him good.

For Janghi, this cannot be Mamadou's fate. We will find a way to give Mamadou the right to an identity with a birth certificate. And then, we will send him to school. So that he can smile again. He is entitled to it.

One miracle and we save Yeri's father's life!

This year, as in previous years, we at Janghi are looking forward to accompanying the Talibés to their families. Indeed, these children entrusted to Koranic teachers in big cities often do not see their families for years - for us, this is a fundamental right to be protected.

The trip is coming to an end, and we catch a glimpse of Yeri's little brother, we recognise him by his eyes. Yeri goes to school in Dakar with Janghi, he didn't come today because this time it was the others' turn, but we are happy to greet his parents. Our volunteer Doctor soon realises, however, that his father is seriously ill and needs urgent medical attention. He explains, however, that the hospital is too far away and there are no funds for transport. But we don't give up, until a real miracle brings an ambulance, never seen in the area, to the front of the road!
